I Am Potential is based on the true story of Patrick Henry Hughes, born without eyes, and with joints that would never let him walk. From the time he could reach a piano, music was his language; by high school he had mastered the trumpet. When he arrived at the University of Louisville, he set his sights on the marching band, and his father, Patrick John Hughes, pushed his wheelchair through every formation of every halftime show, working night shifts so he could be there.
Written and directed by Zach Meiners and shot in Louisville, the film stars Burgess Jenkins, Jimmy Bellinger, and Jama Williamson, with Judge Reinhold, adapted from the book I Am Potential by Patrick Henry Hughes with Patrick John Hughes and Bryant Stamford. It is a story about what fathers give up, what sons overcome, and what it looks like when neither gives in.
